Burbank, CA - July 10, 2003 - At the Lancaster County Courthouse
today, the judge handed out a continuance until next Thursday,
July 17, 2003, 1:30 pm. At that time, he will hear arguments from
the Lawyers for Kimi Peck, President of Chihuahua Rescue, and
174 Chihuahuas in Baldwin Park, CA.
The Laywers will be fighting for these dogs lives,
174 Chihuahuas that were seized from a Breeder in Acton, CA in
November, 2002. They have been at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter
since then. The Hayden Bill, SB 1875, is the reason these dogs
could survive the court system. But only if the Court is made
to believe that these dogs fall under the conditions of the Hayden
Bill, and that they uphold the Bill.
At the hearing today, the Judge heard from the
LA County shelter system who hired a behaviorist from the Bay
Area who was not in attendence today. She will be at the next
court date to tell the Judge in her professional opinion that
140 of these dogs are not adoptable, and should be killed. However,
these dogs have never been socialized, and have been living in
deplorable conditions. Some shelter workers believe that if the
dogs were given the opportunity to live in a normal home environment,
separated from each other, they would learn how to love and trust
and become a pet. There has been tremendous support from rescues
across the Country to foster and rehabilitate each dog. They will
be placed seperately in homes experienced with Puppy Mill dogs,
evaluated, treated for any medical conditions and socialized.
At that point, if the dogs are deemed adoptable, they will be
available for adoption to the people who have offered homes.
The Hayden Bill provides for all animals to be
given proper medical treatments upon arrival to a shelter, and
that no adoptable animal should be euthanized. It also covers
longer holding periods, and gives the provision that all dogs,
no matter what their temperament, should be allowed to be released
to a reputable Non Profit Animal Rescue. Here is a website to
see more specific information on the Bill. http://www.concentric.net/~Eadut/articles/sb1785.htm
What is needed from the public now is to send
your donations now for their Legal Defense. An attorney, Shannon
Keith, very familiar on the Animal Registration laws, especially
SB1785, has offerred her servics at a drastically discounted rate.
She must be in attendance to argue for the release of these animals
to Kimi Peck and Chihuahua Rescue (http://www.chihuahuarescue.com)
per SB1785.
Please see the http://www.angelsondeathrow.com
website for information how to donate. This donation will help
not only the lives of these dogs, but could change the lives of
many, many dogs in the future.
